The immediate base camp area was all modeled digitally in LightWave 3D and was based off of pre-vis material provided by production. The pre-vis gave us an idea of the camp layout and the overall style of the tents themselves. However, our team remodeled most of the objects to allow for more object and texture detail, and for physical soft-body dynamics simulations. Digital artist, Alex Friderici, gave the tents movement and life through LightWave's Motion Designer feature by simulating the action of stretched canvas in a light breeze. LightWave 3D was also used to texture and render all of our digital sets. Global illumination was utilized to simulate the indirect lighting bouncing off of the snowy environment, lending to realism.
